Models for Host-macroparasite Systems: a Comparison between Spatially Structured and Unstructured Models

چکیده

We consider classical host-parasite systems consisting of ordinary differential equations for the total numbers of hosts, parasites, and larvae. We also consider a newer, spatially structured model that consists of a partial differential equation for each of those populations. We finally compare the behavior of solutions for the spatially homogeneous model to that of the solutions for the spatially structured model through numerical simulations.

Exclusion and spatial segregation in the apparent competition between two hosts sharing macroparasites.

In this paper we investigate the spatial dynamics of a deterministic model describing two host species that partially share a common spatial domain, experiencing apparent competition mediated by macroparasites. The aim of this work is to understand the mechanisms underlying apparent competition processes in a spatially structured environment, which have been generally overlooked up to now. Firs...

Bayesian Melding of Deterministic Models and Kriging for Analysis of Spatially Dependent Data

The link between geographic information systems and decision making approach own the invention and development of spatial data melding method. These methods combine different data sets, to achieve better results. In this paper, the Bayesian melding method for combining the measurements and outputs of deterministic models and kriging are considered. Then the ozone data in Tehran city are analyze...

Macroparasite dynamics of migratory host populations.

Spatial variability in host density is a key factor affecting disease dynamics of wildlife, and yet there are few spatially explicit models of host-macroparasite dynamics. This limits our understanding of parasitism in migratory hosts, whose densities change considerably in both space and time. In this paper, we develop a model for host-macroparasite dynamics that considers the directional move...

Landscape Genetics Reveals Focal Transmission of a Human Macroparasite

Macroparasite infections (e.g., helminths) remain a major human health concern. However, assessing transmission dynamics is problematic because the direct observation of macroparasite dispersal among hosts is not possible. We used a novel landscape genetics approach to examine transmission of the human roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides in a small human population in Jiri, Nepal. Unexpectedly, we f...
